A sannyāsī of the Daśanāmī Giri order, initiated in the Śrī Pañcadaśanāma Jūnā Akhāḍā — carrying the Śaiva paramparā and the science of Swara Yoga to seekers everywhere.
गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः ।
गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥ "The Guru is Brahmā, the Guru is Viṣṇu, the Guru is Maheśvara; the Guru is verily the supreme Brahman itself — salutations to that Guru."
Swami Charanashrit Giri belongs to the Daśanāmī sannyāsa paramparā established by Ādi Śaṅkarācārya, bearing the name Giri — "mountain" — the order of ascetics whose sādhana is steadiness, tapas and unmoving abidance in the Self. His sannyāsa dīkṣā stands within the Śrī Pañcadaśanāma Jūnā Akhāḍā, the oldest and largest of the Śaiva akhāḍās, whose presiding deity is Bhagavān Dattātreya.
His teaching draws together the two great wings of the Śaiva tradition: the ordered renunciation and Vedāntic clarity of the Daśanāmī orders, and the non-dual recognition (pratyabhijñā) of the Kashmir Śaiva masters — Vasugupta, Utpaladeva, Abhinavagupta and Kṣemarāja — for whom the whole universe is the joyous vibration (spanda) of one Consciousness.
At the heart of Swamiji's teaching stands Swara Yoga — the ancient science of the breath taught by Śiva to Pārvatī in the Śiva Svarodaya. The breath flowing in the left and right nostrils, the five tattvas rising and dissolving within each breath, and the still midpoint of suṣumnā form a complete map of consciousness that anyone can verify in their own body. From this root he has developed and teaches the Nadi Tattva system through the Swara Yoga Peeth.
Swamiji's work is anchored at Swara Yoga Peeth, Rishikesh, on the banks of Mother Gaṅgā — publishing scripture teachings, guided meditations, courses and personal consultations through swarayoga.org and its allied platforms, and serving pilgrims at the great Kumbh Melas alongside the Jūnā Akhāḍā through kumbhmela.guru.
The tradition opens its doors through study and practice — start with the śāstras, or sit with a guided meditation.
